Reusable Aluminum Flood Barriers

TrapBag® Home Defense Aluminum Flood Barrier System

Engineered Protection for Garage Doors and Openings

When floodwater reaches your garage or storefront, protection must be structural.

The TrapBag® Aluminum Plank System is designed to protect doors, garages, loading docks, and other openings during storm surge or rising water events.

Unlike temporary surface barriers, this system is engineered for your exact opening and designed for repeated seasonal use.

Is This the Right Flood Barrier for Your Property?

This system is a strong fit if you:

  • Live near the coast or a surge-prone area
  • Experience repeated seasonal flooding
  • Want a reusable system for the same opening year after year
  • Prefer professional installation

It is designed for static flood conditions and must be installed on structurally sound surfaces.

If you need short-term, ground-level protection without permanent mounting, the Water-Filled Barrier may be a better choice.

How the Aluminum Plank System Works

The system has two parts that stay with the building and one part you install only when water is coming. Vertical side channels mount permanently into the structure on each side of an opening. The aluminum planks store away between events and slide into those channels when a storm is forecast.

Here is what happens once the planks go in:

  • 1 The planks stack into a load-bearing wall. Each plank seats on the one below it and spans the full width of the opening. Stacking continues to the protection height the opening was engineered for, so the same channels can hold a shorter barrier for a minor event or a taller one for a larger surge.
  • 2 Compression seals close the gaps. A gasket runs between each plank and along the side channels. As the planks lock down, those gaskets press against the aluminum and the mounting surface, which is what stops water from working through the seams. That sealed-channel design is the difference between an engineered barrier and a surface barrier that water can find its way around.
  • 3 Water pressure transfers into the structure. As floodwater rises against the planks, it pushes horizontally. The planks carry that load into the anchored side channels, and the channels pass it into the building frame. Because the barrier is fixed to sound structure rather than resting on the ground, it holds position as the water deepens.
  • 4 The opening reopens after the event. Once water recedes, the planks lift out and go back into storage, the channels stay mounted, and the opening returns to normal use until the next storm.

The planks are aluminum, so they resist corrosion across repeated seasonal use and stay light enough to position by hand during setup.

Installation Overview

Each system is engineered for your opening before installation.

  • 1 Site Evaluation: Opening size, protection height, and structural conditions are reviewed.
  • 2 Frame Installation: Vertical side posts are anchored permanently to the structure.
  • 3 Seasonal Deployment: Before a storm, planks are inserted and stacked manually.
  • 4 Sealing Activation: Compression gaskets create a sealed barrier under static flood conditions.
  • 5 Post-Storm Removal: Planks are removed and stored for future use.

For residential and commercial properties, Emerald Green provides installation and seasonal service.

Why Choose an Engineered Opening System?

This system:

  • Protects the most vulnerable part of a structure
  • Is engineered per opening
  • Is reusable season after season
  • Requires minimal storage space
  • Can integrate with perimeter flood protection

It is built for predictable deployment when storms return.

Performance Considerations

Each installation is engineered based on:

  • Required protection height
  • Opening width
  • Structural capacity
  • Hydrostatic load calculations

The system is designed for static water conditions and must be installed properly to perform as intended.
