Shoreline Stabilization – Fort Hancock on Sandy Hook Bay, NJ
Project Information
Date: April 23, 2022
Location: Sandy Hook Bay, NJ
Project Summary
Fort Hancock, a historic United States Army fort, and other historical buildings in the area were jeopardized by unstable shorelines and erosion. The local chapel and ferry dock were the most vulnerable due to their proximity to Sandy Hook Bay. The National Park Service (NPS) knew they must act swiftly to preserve these historic landmarks.
RENOVA, contracted for its expertise in environmental remediation, embarked on this emergency shoreline stabilization project. The RENOVA team installed TrapBag Barriers on-site to protect from further erosion. Sand-filled TrapBags will remain in place as a temporary solution until the NPS has the opportunity to install a permanent solution within the next 5 years.
