Mudslide, Flood, & Erosion Control Barriers for California

All corners of California are at risk of flood threats, be it from heavy rains and aging levees or coastal erosion. TrapBag® barriers protect California’s infrastructure, communities, and natural habitats.

TrapBag® Flood, Erosion, and Mudflow Protection in California

Rapid-Deploy Flood Barriers

Water levels can rise in minutes. TrapBag® flood barriers can be deployed in a fraction of the time required for traditional sandbag barriers ahead of a flood emergency and can withstand an ocean’s worth of water pressure.

Erosion Control

TrapBag® barriers protect California’s vulnerable coastlines, highways, and communities from the life-threatening effects of erosion. They reinforce the soil’s integrity in these sensitive areas and prevent beach deterioration and soil loss along riverbanks that can make future floods worse.

Mudflow Diversion Barriers

Mudslides and mudflows can have deadly consequences for California homes and neighborhoods. However, TrapBag® is strong enough to divert mudflows away from neighborhoods and protect homes, businesses, and lives.

Who We Serve In California

TrapBag® works with multiple industries in California to protect their buildings and projects from flood and erosion damage.

Environmental Protection Services

California’s coast is vulnerable to hurricanes, erosion, and damage from geological and seismic activity. Beaches are at risk of washing away, which leaves coastal habitats vulnerable.

Environmental protection groups and agencies can use these barriers to protect California’s coastline from irreversible destruction.

Emergency Management

Every second counts before disaster hits. County and state emergency management crews across the US trust TrapBag® for fast, reliable flood protection, including in California. These barriers offer better defense for properties in flood-prone parts of the state and can be deployed in hours rather than days.

Infrastructure & Coastal Engineering

Civil and coastal engineers trust TrapBag® to help them protect local water supplies with proper stormwater detention during construction. These barriers can also reinforce structures like bridges and highways during coastal flooding or storm surge events. TrapBag® is a cost-effective way to protect these systems and the people who use them.

What's At Stake?

Catastrophic Hurricanes

Southern California is particularly vulnerable to the occasional deadly Pacific hurricane. Additionally, while these storms are less common in Northern California, the region can still experience severe, ocean-borne weather at any time of year that can cause coastal flooding and storm surges.

Beach Erosion Threats

Thousands of people and animals call California’s coastal areas home. However, with the ocean’s constant wave action battering the shoreline and occasional weather-driven threats, the entire region is at risk of destruction that could cost hundreds of millions of dollars in damage without intervention.

Inland Flash Flooding

Mountain and high-desert towns in California are vulnerable to sudden flash floods, especially in gulches and along dry creek beds. These can be life-threatening and cause massive casualties without proper warnings or preparation, so having a rapid-deployment protection plan is essential.

  • Fast Deployment

When every minute counts, you can deploy TrapBag® in a matter of hours, not days. In emergencies like flash floods in Southern California’s burn scar areas, TrapBag barriers can be rapidly deployed. A small team can install hundreds of feet of protection in hours, which is crucial for safeguarding communities in the San Bernardino or Santa Barbara foothills.

  • Reliable Strength

Our state-of-the-art geotextile creates a barrier that withstands wave action during flooding events, as well as the slow deteriorating effects of shoreline erosion.

  • Efficient Design

TrapBag® is designed for fast and easy storage, transport, and installation. It can be implemented on all types of terrain and scaled for the size of your project.

  • Tried & Tested

Thousands of miles of TrapBag® barriers have been deployed worldwide. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has also tested the barriers’ strength during major flooding conditions.

How TrapBag® Compares to:

Sandbags have been used for centuries to protect communities from flooding because they’re inexpensive and can be stacked to create taller barriers.

However, they aren’t ideal for anyone who doesn’t have a civil engineering degree or extensive emergency management expertise. Sandbags are labor-intensive to fill and require more manpower than TrapBag® does, all with subpar levels of protection.

how to place sandbags

These barriers are designed to be filled with water and create enough weight and pressure to divert floodwaters away from buildings and structures.

However, most water barriers aren’t more than a few feet tall. They also can’t withstand wave action of any kind. TrapBag® barriers start at 4 feet tall and can be stacked on top of each other more easily during major flooding events.

Flood-prone communities use flood walls and floodgates to prevent severe damage in vulnerable or low-lying areas.

While they’re effective, floodgates are too expensive and time-consuming for many communities. TrapBags can serve as temporary flood protection barriers to protect these areas during emergencies, as well as a floodgate system for a fraction of the total cost.
