Home Defense Frequently Asked Questions
What is the TrapBag® Water Filled Barrier?
The TrapBag® Water Filled Barrier is a temporary flood protection system designed to be filled with water to create a stable, continuous barrier. It is used for short term flood mitigation where rapid deployment and removal are required.
How does the TrapBag® Water Filled Barrier work?
Once deployed, the barrier is filled with water using standard hoses or pumps. The weight of the water anchors the barrier in place while the flexible design allows it to conform to the ground surface.
What applications is the water filled barrier best suited for?
The TrapBag® Water Filled Barrier is commonly used for
- Home openings
- Temporary flood response
- Roadway and access protection
- Facility and perimeter flood control
- Emergency response situations
- Short duration flood events
It is not intended for long term or permanent installations.
What equipment/materials required for installation?
No additional equipment is required.
Installation requires:
- Waterproof Tape (not included)
What surface conditions are required?
The TrapBag® Water Filled Barrier performs best on relatively flat and smooth surfaces such as pavement. Excessive debris, sharp objects, or severe unevenness should be removed prior to installation to ensure proper sealing.
How tall is the water filled barrier?
Barrier height varies by model. Typical water filled barriers provide protection in the range of approximately 16 inches depending on configuration and site conditions.
Can the barrier be reused?
Yes. When properly handled and stored, the TrapBag® Water Filled Barrier is reusable for multiple deployments.
How is the barrier removed after use?
After the flood event, the barrier is drained of water and folded for removal. The lightweight design when empty allows for easy transport and storage.
How does it compare to sandbags?
Compared to sandbags, the TrapBag® Water Filled Barrier
- Deploys significantly faster
- Requires fewer personnel
- Eliminates the need for sand handling and disposal
- Provides a more consistent seal on suitable surfaces
- Reduces cleanup time after use
Is the barrier resistant to UV exposure?
The barrier is constructed from durable materials intended for temporary outdoor use.
Can the barrier be used in flowing water?
The barrier is intended for static or low velocity floodwaters. It is not recommended for use in fast moving water or high flow environments without additional anchoring and engineering review.
How is the barrier stored?
When empty and dry, the barrier can be rolled or folded and stored in a compact space. Storage in a cool, dry location is recommended.
Is training required?
Formal training is not required. However, basic installation guidance is recommended to ensure proper deployment and performance.
